Alan Keith

Alan KeithAlan Keith has been a figure on the Northwest music scene for more than 30 years. After graduating from Roosevelt High School (under the direction of Waldo King), Al spent three years in college before leaving Seattle to tour with road bands, gaining experience opening shows and/or appearing with Stanley Turrentine, the Ohio Players, James Cotton, the Average White Band, the Manhattan Transfer, Natalie Cole, the Four Tops, Cab Calloway and many others. After finishing a bachelors degree in music from the University of Washington under Roy Cummings, Al now works as a side man and leader in the Seattle area with many local Seattle groups including Annie Rose and the Thrillers, the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz Police, and countless other Seattle musicians.

Al's many recording credits include dozens of CD's for local artists and recordings for Universal Vivendi, commercial work for Nordstrom and other local retailers and PBS.

Currently a member of and featured soloist with the Jazz Police Big Band and the Jim Cutler Jazz Orchestra, Al continues to lead groups under his own name.

The Al Keith Octet with co-leader Doug Reid features the music of trumpeter/composer Don Sickler and highlights drummer Greg Williamson; saxophonists Doug Reid, Mike Edwards, and Mike West; bassist Phil Demaree; trombonist David Marriott; and special guests including trumpeter Thomas Marriott and pianist Randy Halberstadt.

The Al Keith Quartet highlights music of Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Woody Shaw and often features Mike West on saxophones and selected reed instruments.

Al performs on a Taylor trumpet and flugelhorn handmade by Andy Taylor, Taylor Trumpets, U.K.
